Ardh means half. Each shape is half a circle, and they alternate direction along every row — one curving up, the next curving down. The rows sit close together, so the pattern covers the whole rug rather than sitting as a motif on an open ground.
Jute is a coarse plant fibre, so the olive sits slightly uneven rather than as a flat block of colour, and the rug feels firm and textured underfoot.
